The Portrait series is a collection of photographs depicting members of the Sarasota and St. Petersburg, Florida artistic community in stark, naturally lit settings. Wearing their own clothes, posing as they wish, those pictured are presented with the least amount of artistry, on my part. This approach to portraiture is an attempt to convey a sense of realism.
Conceptually, this series is an attempt to deconstruct the genre of portraiture. As a genre ostensibly meant to convey not only the identity of the depicted subject, but also something genuine about his or her personality, portraiture relies on the idea of realism. In order to accentuate realism, this series isolates the subject in a stark, white setting lit in the way we interpret the world around us.
